Willow Weave is Bound, Labeled, Done

One of my goals during the Olympics was to complete Willow Weave, and I finally finished attaching the label last night.  This was a spur of the moment project I did as part of a sew-along in 2013.  I like this quilt and enjoyed the process of making it.  I think I will donate it to a group that sells quilts and uses the proceeds to benefit local charities.

Friday and Saturday were spent working at our local quilt club’s biannual show.

I picked up these items at the Bits ‘n Pieces booth for about $4.  I love having old quilt magazines at the ranch to browse through before turning out the light at night.  These will probably be returned to the booth in two years for someone else to enjoy.  The pattern is one I’ve seen other quilters post on line.  I also nabbed a Carol Doak book of star blocks.

This reversible apron and reusable Swifter pad came from the Boutique.  I thought about gifting the apron, but I like it so much, that may or may not happen.

We had some great vendors and these cuts of batiks came home with me too.  I love batiks and this photograph does not do justice to the colors.

The event was tremendous fun, but much work remains to be done in the aftermath, so it's probably a good thing we only have shows every other year.

Getting Ready for the Olympics

My handwork sewing goal while watching the Olympics is to complete the binding on my Willow Weave quilt.  So, today I've been doing the machine work part of the process.

We are having very cool weather for Central Texas, so having a quilt spread over my lap while I work on it will be enjoyable.  I should be ready start stitching it down when opening ceremonies are aired tonight.

A Great Weekend....

We have just returned from spending a nice long weekend at the ranch.  Sleet began falling shortly after our arrival Thursday making it a great night for using some of those quilts I've made over the last few years.

Friday morning we were iced in and it was a perfect day to spend quilting the Willow Weave top I pieced as part of a sew-along in 2012.

We enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise Saturday and the temperatures warmed up to the mid-60s.

Later that day the kids joined us so we could celebrate our oldest grandson’s 15th birthday.

Willow Weave is a Flimsy

I finished putting the Willow Weave top together at Sit ‘N Sew today.  This one was fun; but, alas, now it’s time to return to other longer-term projects.  I’m linking up to Doreen's Willow Weave linky party where others in the sew along have posted pictures of their completed tops.

Willow Weave Progress

Except for adding the narrow accent pieces to row 3 and stitching that row together, I’m pretty much caught up with the Willow Weave sew along hosted by  Doreen.  My design board is barely big enough for this stage of the project, but here is what my very scrappy version looks like at the moment.

I may tweak the block arrangement a little more, but I think I’m getting close.

Here are the narrow accent pieces for addition to row 3.

Two Deadlines Met

Whew!  I am officially caught up with Doreen’s Willow Weave sew-along.  Most participants are using pre-cut collections;  mine, however, is certainly going to be a scrappy version.  We will receive our next step tomorrow, and I'm linking this page with her Week #2 post.

While sewing with my Tuesday group today, I also completed these five anti-ouch pouches bringing me to a total of 10 for the month.  They will go with me to quilt club tomorrow.

Scrap Bin Diving

I've been on a cutting marathon this weekend.

My stash of batik scraps has totally gotten out of control, and when Doreen at Aunt Reen's Place announced she is sponsoring a sew along for a pattern that could use units as small as 2 ½ x 4 ½ inches, I was game.  To make it even move appealing, she says the pattern, which she has named Willow Weave, has one easy block with no matching seams.  The sew along is really designed for jelly rolls, but is supposed to work just as well with scraps.

I don’t need another project, but it will be fun to tame the stash and have something to work on that’s not quite as fussy as my Jane Stickle blocks.  Now that I’ve finished all my slicing and dicing, I can stow away the cutting table and do some much needed housework tomorrow.
