Plans Gone Awry

This week has certainly had its share of surprises.  I had decided to do handwork while sewing with my Tuesday group.  Since I was running late, I grabbed my kit for making hexagons only to discover after arriving at the Club House that I didn’t bring the fabric.   Sheesh…. Change of plans.  I decided to work on my scrappy bow tie project instead.  After dumpster diving and borrowing a rotary cutter I was able to crank out a few on the Singer 404 I leave there all the time.

The second, much bigger,  mess up happened yesterday.  It’s something of a jolt when the 20 guests you were expecting Friday show up Thursday.

We were hosting an end of tax season party for the AARP tax volunteers in our area and dear hubby simply got the date wrong.  It wasn’t as big a disaster as it might have been because two of the other site leaders provided beverages and snacks, but needless to say the house was not in the condition I had planned on it being for the event.  Hubby was a mess after working in the yard all day and the two dogs were in dire need of baths.  The good news is that this turn of events has given me back my Friday, plus the promise of several evening meals out …. Something we rarely do.

I’ve been making these blocks for a group project.  We have had quite a discussion as to whether they are Churn Dash or Shoo Fly blocks.  Whichever is correct, my part in this stage of the process did get done on schedule.

My first batch of five anti-ouch pouches for the May Guild Meeting are complete.

Whew!

Life has not been quilter-friendly for the last couple of weeks.  There have been company and deadlines and commitments to meet.

So, the blog has been silent and the only progress I can report is that I barely managed to complete five anti-ouch pouches to hand in at Guild meeting Wednesday plus four more rosettes for my Edyta Sitar project.

Our company left Tuesday and arrived safely at home in Wisconsin yesterday.  Here is the lovely flower they gave me.

It certainly was neither necessary nor expected, but I do love it.

They also insisted on buying this rock planter when I picked it up at an excursion to the Wildseed Farm in Fredericksburg.  I’m into succulents this year and had been wanting one of these planters for a long time.  There was a lot of good natured teasing about me wanting a rock with a hole in it.

I’m looking forward to some time at the sewing machine this coming week.  Some mindless stitching is in order!

This, That and the Other...

This month’s anti-ouch pouches are calling my name.  I am working on a group project with a deadline next week.  There’s always the ongoing quilting that’s been inching along.  But all I wanted to work on today while sewing with friends was my scrappy bow tie project, so that’s what I did.  I have 10 blocks completed and made progress on an eleventh today.

Every time I look at the blocks on my design wall, they make me happy because of all the bright cheerful colors.  I guess the other projects will still be there tomorrow…

This little guy was checking me out after a recent shower.  He’s too pretty to be creepy.

I’m linking to the Scraptastic Tuesday linky party.
