A Treasure Trove of Scraps

Tuesday brought record high temperatures, even for Central Texas, peaking at 84 degrees.  It made for a delightful day, but what does that bode for our summer?

My Tuesday quilting friends have taken note of my dumpster diving and Gail had this bag waiting for me at my usual spot.  I weighed it when I got home and it comes in at a whopping 16 pounds.  This should keep me busy for a while.  Thanks, Gail!

I won’t delve into it until this weekend.  I have a group of quilter friends coming tomorrow afternoon and I don’t want my sewing room looking like early explosion.  (I hope they don’t open the door to my stash closet….😨...somebody could be hurt by an avalanche!)

In a little while I’ll be leaving to help prepare a meal at church.  The smell of the freshly baked brownies I’m taking is intoxicating.  I hope they all make it there.  I’m looking forward to Quilt Cam tonight and more handwork time.

Slow Sunday Stitching

As soon as I started adding neutral hexagons to my diamonds, I knew I wanted more diversity.

So, I dove into my French General stash and started cutting more.  I will spend my Slow Sunday Stitching time today basting them.  Hubby follows the Packers and this will be a good project to work on while I join him for that.  He’s on his own for the other game!

Also, my die cutter and I really bonded this weekend.  Here are strips from the scraps I was gifted, ready to be sub-cut into 1 and 1½ inch squares for bowtie blocks.

Today is a good day to stay inside.  We have a wind advisory in effect with gusts of 45 mph possible.  These winds also resulted in a fire weather warning.  We are expected to have a high of 65 today, but it certainly won’t feel like it.

More Scraps

Last week two of my Tuesday sewing buds brought containers of scraps for me to look through.  Here are some of the gleanings for my bowtie blocks.
I spent a good amount of time yesterday slicing and dicing so I can play with them today.

And today there were even more scraps offered.  I'm setting aside any that have a black background for possible use in the border blocks.  This should keep me cutting and stitching for a while, especially since there was talk about bringing me more next week.  This time, however, I plan on using my Accuquilt cutter!  I have a die that cuts 1, 1 1/2 and 2 inch strips.  Since these units are based on 1 and 1 1/2 inch squares that should save me some time.

Here are the two most recent blocks I’ve completed.

Our guild meets tomorrow and I will be taking 15 anti-ouch pouches...a good start to the year.

Life Happens

Life certainly has a way of changing our plans.  Company that unexpectedly morphed into an overnight stay last weekend plus a day lost to jury duty on Monday left me scrambling to hit my pace the rest of the week.  I wouldn't have missed the time spent with my daughter (think adult coloring books and pedicures).  Also, I was very relieved to not be chosen to serve on the jury.  Based on questions put to the pool about cases involving sexual abuse and assault of a minor, I know it would have been a difficult case to hear. Fortunately for me, I was assigned a high enough number that there was very little chance of me serving this time.

So, all I have to show are three more rosettes for my Edyta Sitar project and a few small cuts I picked up to add diversity to the project.  Other things going on in the background were delivering our Guild's donation quilt top to the long-armer and stitching up a few more anti-ouch pouches.

I need to spend some time at the cutting table tomorrow and I’m hoping for more quilty productivity this week.

For the last two years, I’ve supported one of our Guild’s community service projects by stitching up 100 anti-ouch pouches that benefit breast cancer patients.  I completed my first batch of five yesterday and that makes me feel like 2017 really has begun.

A cold front arrived in the afternoon and staying in today really appeals to me.  I know our weather is balmy compared to what is going on elsewhere, so I’m not complaining.  (I can just imagine my Wisconsin relatives rolling their eyes at what a cold weather wimp I am.)  My goal today is to sandwich and begin quilting a wall hanging, and I hope I’m able to make some progress on it.

Hello, 2017

My collection of rosettes is slowly growing.  According to the pattern, I need 24 more.  Now that hubby and I have taken down the outside Christmas lights, I hope to settle into my comfy chair and add to what’s on the wall.  I don’t know how I will arrange the rosettes, but I’m pretty confident the diamond blocks are the way I want them so I may start joining them soon.
