Wednesday's Workshop

Wednesday’s workshop project was learning to work with silk.  Debbie Maddy led us through the process and our 3-hour class project was a large churn dash block.

Sadly, I was having one of “those” days and ended up making a miss-cut that required me to buy additional fabric before I could finish the project.  Fortunately Debbie had a little more of what I needed for my kit and I was back in business with even enough left over to add a border.  Last night I finished it.  It’s approximately 16 inches square.

I love the look of silk, and learned a lot during the class.  One of our program speakers this year said we should expose ourselves to as many different teachers as possible.  I truly buy into this concept and am very glad I took advantage of this opportunity.  The silk projects she showed during her trunk show were exquisite.  Debbie is an engaging teacher, but this is probably not an avenue I’ll pursue.  Cotton is much more accessible in our area and not quite as pricey.

Beautiful look with the silk....but having done enough garment on silk, it is not a choice for me either. Glad you had access to enough fabric.....we have all had one of those days. I sure admire your willingness to jump in and experiment. I have settled gently into my comfort zone and realize those days of wild adventure into the unknown are behind me now. In my day, I tried it all, and so glad i found my niche. Thanks for sharing.

Good for you to try something new and learning to work with silk. I'm not sure that I would have been brave enough to try. Your large churn dash block looks fabulous ... glad you were able to buy more fabric so you could finish it.
