11 Years in the Making

I began my version of the civil War Quilt by Jane Stickle in 2008.  It was that year when, quite unexpectedly, I had to opportunity to stand in front of the original while travelling in the Northeast.

By late November, 2014, it was a flimsy and hung in the closet with its backing band binding fabrics waiting for me to get the courage to quilt it.  I decided this year that I would rather have someone else tackle it, and finally it is a finished quilt!

Many friends gave me batik scraps to use in its construction.  The quilt is so large, the only picture I have of it, so far, was taken when I unveiled at last week’s Guild meeting.

well it takes awhile to get a quilt like this done! took me about 5 years to get the first one done and 4 years the second one - doubt I will ever do another

Yours is one of the prettiest I have seen of that pattern. I think some of my batiks might be in that since you visited me in 2012. That was a good move to have someone else quilt it since it is so large.

Mary what a labor of love and how beautiful!!!!! Great picture of you and your prize heirloom! Good for you! I am a wanna be..............I need to just get started! Hope all is well, and we certainly are looking forward to Fall, if it ever comes this year aren't we! We just got back from a trip to OK and visited friends in the Mineral Wells area. On Friday afternoon a storm blew in and we sat on the porch and watched 3 1/4" of rain fall and hard over a 3 hour period. I can hardly wait until we get this break! Hugs

What a beauty! I am glad you pulled it out and finished it. That big...it deserves to be finished up on a long long arm! And now, you feel better for the finish too, I bet. I enjoyed watching you work thru the border blocks, and it is just stunning.
